The Annotated Rant is back: Fuck John McCain. (NSFW language and all that)

And found via that, a compilation of the Comedy Gold that resulted from the Great McCain Debate Wander at the "Town hall" debate. The Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien ones kill me. "I've become vapor!"

Muslim McCain supporters, and some decent non-Muslim supporters, take on a hateful asshole:

Oh, Mr. McCain, the problems unleashing anger and hate can cause, eh? I don't think you deserve those decent folk we see in this video. They sure as hell deserve better.

Powell says the most important thing

The best thing that Colin Powell has ever said:

"I'm also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the [Republican] Party say... such things as 'Well, you know that Mr Obama is a Muslim'.

"Well the correct answer is, 'He's not a Muslim, he's a Christian, he's always been a Christian'. But the really right answer is, "What if he is?' Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer is 'No', that's not America."

The most interesting thing in Powell's endorsement, I think, is how much of his reasoning is about the Republican party and the direction it is taking, as opposed to just concerns about McCain. In the Culture Wars in America, the Republican Party has become the front line, and I can't help but wonder if we are going to see the Grand Old Party blow apart at the seams because of it. The moderate, small government, libertarian-leaning Republicans made a deal with the Devil, and now are waking up to the price that they, and this country, have paid.

The Obama before Obama

A country is made by the efforts of heroes that often end up forgotten. I'm not talking about the sorts of heroes we generally see, the ones who find clever ways to kill many enemies and/or die themselves in imaginative and gory ways. I'm talking about the sort of heroes that do the hard work, challenge the deeply ingrained assumptions of their society, and in so doing push society just a little bit further. The Rosa Parks sort of heroes, in other words.

Go read about one of them, John Mercer Langston.

McCain is a Big Fat Stinky Liar

John McCain condemns the despicable, and utterly evil, John Hagee.

He rejects the endorsement Hagee gave him.

You know, the one McCain actively sought out some time ago.

Of course, at that time Hagee hadn't come out with his "God sent Hitler" comments. Of course, he had been saying similarly batshit and evil things for years, just not that one, the one a few members of the mainstream press deigned to notice for a change. Among other gems, he was one of many right wing pastors who blamed Hurricane Katrina on the fact that New Orleans is a dirty, nasty, evil town.

But then, sometimes I feel conflicted about Hagee, because anyone who pisses off William Donahue must have *something* going for him. * Oh, it's always good times when nutbags get into slap-fights.

* but then, given William Donahue's vision of reality, in which even the slightest criticism of the Catholic church is proof of utter hatred towards all Catholics, pretty much everyone pisses off Donahue.

P.S. Work bit. 'nuf said. Off to watch movies with friends.

Olbermann on the latest Clinton "mispeaking"

You know, I don't think I've ever seen Keith Olbermann quite this angry before. Worth watching for the last few minutes alone, in which he gives a litany of Clinton's lies and misdeeds during the campaign. At this point it's becoming hard to tell who's the bigger worm -- her or McCain.
