I'm not a huge fan of "pop:" but there are exceptions, and one of them is Pink. I wouldn't call myself a huge fan -- I don't even own any of her albums -- but she does some great stuff. She also has a great sense of humor, even when doing a video for a serious song:

Gregory is:

- currently reading the collected ghost stories of Edith Wharton

- so ready for November 4th to be over and done with

- headachy

- currently, and absurdly, addicted to a silly little Super Mario knockoff called Super Tux 2. Open Source games can be fun, yo. And cute as the dickens. I mean, a little penguin running around stomping on fluffy monsters? Priceless.

- enjoying the new Sarah Jane Adventures series. Even if they did the unforgivable and went for the tired old Evil Clown cliche.

- falling in love with Hannah Fury's music. I have her album The Thing That Feels. "The Vampire Waltz" destroys me every time I hear it.

In other news:

The Hunter's Moon seemed to bring out weirdness and other fun at my apartment complex, with odd conversations drifting through the night air, a shouting match somewhere in the complex, and at least one person having, apparently, a Very Good Time, if you know what I mean. In several bursts throughout the night, the last being somewhere around 5 am.  I say one person because either 1)the woman in question was really into self-love that night, or 2)her partner didn't make concrete penetrating sounds.

I'd never really noticed before, but it can actually be a bit depressing hearing other people have a Very Good Time. It is, however, a good sport to try to guess who it was. This apartment building is rather odd, sound wise, and there are ways that sound can travel through it -- largely, I think, because of the ventilation in the bathrooms.

Otherwise, moody. More soon, when certain parts of my head settle a bit. Peace, y'all.

Artists get mad, as we saw with the Wilsons of Heart fame reacting to McCain's use of "Barracuda" to introduce That Psycho Witch From Alaska as his VP candidate.

Then reddit.com links to a picture that seems to be a column by the WIlsons following up on the whole affair. Alas, it's just a joke, from Seattle's The Stranger. But oh, oh, if only they had written it.  Warning: there is a bit of imagery that will haunt your nightmares forever.

After a long, long day at work, it was nice to get something so utterly childish to make me laugh.

Work. Come home. Fall over. But not as bad as yesterday. I've been fighting something the last few days, a thing of achiness and vague fever, which has mostly meant work and then home and that's it. I'm mostly feeing better though, just very, very tired.

But all that is never mind, because Amazon.com is evil, and has started doing this thing where they offer up mp3 albums for 1.99. Today's? I will let you guess from the title of this post. I'm going to be listening to that song like 8 BILLION TIMES in the next week.

So I'm happy. Now to bed.

Emusic was a good haul this month, with Poe, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, the Hedwig and the Angry Inch soundtrack, some Memphis Minnie, and...Information Society. hah! An album I got largely for their outing with with Gary Numan ("Are Friends Electric?" -- one of my fav songs), but also, of course on a best of collection, this song. Dance with me!:

Work, same old same old, not a bad day, a bit slow, boss in a good mood so an easy swinging shift, all in all. Home to eat and then sit at the computer and write for a while, the first time in a while I've written cold at the computer instead of scribbling in my moleskin. Odd feeling, after so long, like when you put on an old pair of glasses you wore for years, but haven't in months. Productive, though, a story actually forming under my fingertips, enough so to cause momentary feelings of giddy joy.

My favorite Jethro Tull song:

Cough. Yes, I have a *lot* of "favorite" Jethro Tull songs. And right now I seem to be a hitting a mood where various bits of music old and new are speaking strongly to me, and Tull is one of those. Ian Anderson has always been a bard singing to the pagan within me. Funny, though -- right now, it's Tull and Nick Cave and Emilie Autumn and flashes of Yat-Kha, Gogol Bordello and Calexico. My muses are varied, what can I say. I mean, hell, I'm posting to my blog with a Tull video and a subject line straight from Cave. What the heck?

This will give you an idea of the past few days of my life:  I have an underarm rash.

I could list the other minor and annoying ailments that are besetting me, but I'll spare you. Suffice to say that Physical Discomfort has been the name of the game, and work today was literally one long headache.

In lieu of whining, a song that I realized, upon a chance encounter with it after the end of the Very Bad Movie on Channel 18, is practically perfect in every way:

The Legendary Pink Dots, Nellie McKay, Frank Black, Woody Guthrie, Ida Cox,  Alien Sex Fiend, Gogol Bordello, with dashes of the Dresden Dolls and Switchblade Symphony.

Like the D&D thing, I can't help but think that there's Deep Truths about Gregory in there somewhere.

I don't want to go to work today. I want to be a bum and loaf around.

Dagnabit.
